Description

Founded in 1993, College Summit is a national non-profit organization with a mission to transform the college admissions process and increase the college enrollment rate of low-income students. Today’s college admissions system leaves behind a key portion of America’s talent: low-income, academically mid-tier students. Working in partnership with the critical players in the college-access challenge – students, parents, high schools, and colleges – College Summit enables all these players to accomplish what none can do alone: ensure that the community harnesses the talent of all college-capable students.

The Program Manager plays a critical role in delivering and expanding the College Summit program in Bridgeport, New Haven and Hartford, Connecticut public schools. During the 2008-2009 academic year, College Summit will serve over 500 seniors from five high schools throughout the state. The Program Manager leads College Summit’s program implementation in the state by ensuring successful implementation of curriculum and tools at partner high schools, maintaining a strong local presence at summer college workshops, and growing support from community stakeholders including local volunteers, school district officials, and higher education institutions. • Works with high school principals, counselors, teachers, and students to build a college-going culture within schools by building school capacity, ensuring optimal utilization of College Summit technology and tools, and by leveraging student voice in the college application process.
• Ensures partner and stakeholder satisfaction with College Summit services.
• Collaborates with principals and counselors to communicate partnership expectations for the implementation of course schedules and for teacher and peer influencer selection and training.
• Supports the implementation of College Summit technology, tools and curriculum by coaching and providing technical assistance to teachers and counselors.
• Reports monthly to principals on student progress in the college application process and ensures accurate data reporting by each school to facilitate measurement of college enrollment rates.
• Assists partner schools in coordinating college-related events to enhance student results throughout the year.
• Ensures the success of the summer workshop season for students, partner high schools, volunteers, and partner colleges.
• Serves as the liaison between College Summit national staff and local colleges to secure regional workshop sites, dates, and student workshop participants.
• Leads recruitment and engagement activities and provides guidance to high school counselors in the design and execution of strategies to secure volunteers for summer Workshops.
• Works with prospective and current school districts, colleges and community stakeholders to obtain support for the continued expansion of College Summit in Connecticut.
